While technology has brought a range of innovations to the wine industry, C.A. Schahinger has realised the importance of preserving traditional cooperage practices.

A major supplier to the Australian wine industry since 1905, the company now exports its quality oak barrels to discerning winemakers around the world.

A family-owned business, the company is still operated by the descendants of Wilhelm Schahinger, a tradesman cooper who migrated to Australia from Germany in 1885.

The company has preserved the traditional - and often time-consuming - cooperage practices, appreciating the significant impact these have on the quality of the oak barrels, and therefore the ageing and maturation process.

All oak used by the company is fully air seasoned and all barrel firing and toasting is carried out over carefully controlled open fires.

The company has long-established and strong relationships with the most reliable and reputable producers of cooperage quality oak in Europe, particularly France, and the USA.

These relationships, and the craftmanship of C.A. Schahinger's coopers, ensure that the company supplies only the best oak barrels available to its customers.
